What Knowing God Really Looks Like

Giving God Our Attention

John 17:3

And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.

When we have someone we are “in love” with we tend to think of them first thing in the morning before anything else when we wake up.

Our behavior tells on us concerning whether we really love someone or not or have a genuine relationship with them.

How well do we really know God and His heart when we are saying our prayers and do we truly trust Him or are we just telling Him that?

If we give God our attention and give it all to Him then He will teach us who He is and what He is about and we won’t have to wonder about our salvation or if He is pleased with us.

Giving God our attention means listening to what He has to say and He is always talking even though we often are not listening.

Everyone starts out reading the Bible thinking it is just a collection of information God put together for us and that is the end of it.

As we move on in our relationship with God we learn that He can speak to us and answer our prayers through literally any passage even if we are reading the same one every day for a week.

The passage doesn’t determine what God can speak into our hearts if we are simply there in His Word with our attention on Him and spending time with Him.

How We Treat Others Is How We Treat God

We often find ourselves looking down on other people and getting very upset with each other over things that really aren’t worth being upset over.

We learn these poor behaviors in childhood and they follow us into adulthood as our egos grow and we become too serious about ourselves to be loving regardless the situation.

When we really know who Christ Jesus is we can’t help but want to be like Him and His enormous heart and love overwhelms us.

Romans 8:29 says that we are meant to be conformed into the image of Jesus and the perfection of His powerful unchanging love.

While on the cross He was praying for the forgiveness of those who were murdering Him and His nature of being pure love even to those being hateful to Him. (Luke23:34)

In the parable in Matthew 25:40 Jesus tells us that He counts our behavior to the people around us as behavior toward Him and how we are treating Him.

Talk about an intense revelation of how God sees our behavior toward everyone around us!

He takes it very personally according to what He says here when He says what you have done to others, you have done to Him.

How we are treating the people around us then indicates to us and others how well we know God because we wouldn’t treat God with disrespect and unloving words.

Spending Time With God

How often do we acknowledge God’s presence with us and behave like He is standing next to us?

Acting like God isn’t around is a statement saying we don’t think He is nearby but far away.

An animal would stop trusting you if you slapped it every time you called it to you with sweet words and it would count your behavior more than your words.

Your words would become worthless to the animal and it would believe what you do and not what you say.

In just the same way we put God out of our lives by disregarding His presence as a joke or untrue and behaving as if He isn’t around at all.

This affects our relationship with God and what kind of activities and conversations we tend to become involved in.

In addition to this, when we are reading our Bible are we reading to learn history or to get to know Him?

I challenge you to ask God questions and be patient and wait for the answers, keep reading in the Bible after asking and see what happens.

Acknowledging God’s presence by speaking to Him when we are alone because He said He is with us makes a bold statement that we trust what He has told us in His Word.

Keeping His Praise On Our Lips And Why

Romans 12:14 says to bless and curse not, pointing to our purpose in that we are to be walking blessings on Earth.

Being made in God’s image we should bless like God blesses, and the first person we should be blessing is God and His Son Jesus Christ.

Philippians 2:14 says we should do everything without complaining and 1 Corinthians 10:10 gives us the reason why!

It says in Corinthians that when they complained that they were killed by the destroyer, who we all know to be Satan.

Some versions go as far as translating this as the “angel of death,” and so the difference between complaining and cursing versus praising and blessing is tremendous.

In Acts 16:25 Paul and Silas were in prison and rather than being destroyed, because they were blessing God with songs, an earthquake hits the prison, the doors all fly open, and all the chains fall off the prisoners.

Praising God and blessing Him and others shows our trust in the Lord that He will help, and our faith not only pleases God, but also opens doors for miracles because faith is the key to all locked doors.

So when things are hard to handle and frustration sets in, remember to choose to bless God for the opportunity to shine in a dark situation and sing a sweet song into His ears.

Who knows, you might very well have an angel show up and change your situation because you were faithful with your lips.

Knowing God’s Heart In Every Situation

Feeling God’s love for us is determined by what you choose to use as your evidence for it.

If you look at what is going on in your life right now and how people are behaving around you, you might think God doesn’t love you.

But while you and I were still being selfish and evil and everything but good, God sent His Son to take the bullet for you because He loves you so much He couldn’t stand the idea of losing you.

This is where we must always see God’s love from, because Lord Jesus proved His love for you and me like no one else ever has or can.

Jesus Christ is God’s heart in every situation! (This is a life-changing affirmation - You can write it down.)

Whether the neighbors are being petty and causing problems, our friends are being unloving and cold, or our own family has turned against us, God has made a way and given us His whole heart already.

Knowing God means that we can trust He will take care of us in any situation we find ourselves in, if we pray and give it to Him. (1 Peter 5:7)

We must remind ourselves that Jesus was treated horribly every day, when He should have been being honored on red carpet, He was being a servant to save our life from the grips of evil and lies. (Hebrews 12:3)

When we focus on how powerful the proof is that God has given us for His love, we can KNOW inside our heart and soul the depth of His love and from that knowing, we can feel how amazing it is to be loved by God even when the world hates us.

This is what knowing God looks like, in that when the world says we are worthless, we know God well enough to know we are worth everything to Him, because He proved it!
