Freedom From Pornography Is Possible
The life of secret addictions is a nightmare for some people who down in their heart of hearts want to escape.
Being caught in a vicious cycle of running back to sinful habits that are a detriment to one’s own self worth and confidence can be debilitating.
But there is light at the end of this tunnel and there is hope to be found.
God has a heart to help and there are methods to defeat this mental and spiritual imprisonment.
Here we will cover three powerful keys to empower you to destroy the grip of pornography.
A Relationship With Things Not People
These days in the world of technology and information we can easily find stories of people who have improper relationships with objects that we find funny.
These individuals become attached to, and even claim to be married to, these objects such as cars, balloons, trees and other things that lack a soul inside them.
Pornography works the same way that these people’s fantasies work.
While the object they have developed an emotional attachment to, and sometimes even sexual arousal over, has no soul... they are no less addicted to the fantasy that it does have one.
They have a very unhealthy relationship with something that has no soul.
Finding satifaction in this fantasy only works when a person is immersed in, and agrees with, the illusion in the mind.
When the bubble of the deception is popped, the enjoyment and satisfaction of it falls away into emptiness.
We have to be aware of our fantasies and thoughts and become in tune to the fact that these fantasies are about objects.
Once we start to realize that the satisfaction we are getting is from a false narrative that does not exist and we are in a relationship with objects and not a soul, then we can start to separate ourselves mentally and emotionally from the phenomenon.
We were meant to have a sexual relationship in a marriage as two connected souls driven by love, and not meant to be in a relationship with flesh and blood bodies or body parts.
Seeing God’s Technology Clearly
This brings us to the next big factor in defeating internal desires that are out of context.
We must see things for their proper purpose.
The machine we live inside of is no different than a car or a truck.
It is a vehicle to operate and ride inside of to accomplish the purposes that God has for our lives.
The tools that make up our bodies are not meant to control us, but rather are meant to serve us for a purpose.
If we can see the parts of the machine for the proper purposes they are meant to accomplish, then we can free ourselves from erroneous desires in false fantasies.
God turned clay into living animated clay in Genesis 2:7.
We are technological masterpieces that God engineered.
Muscles are powered bungie cords that operate our skeleton like a puppet with strings and a computer in our head manages all the details.
This machinery is all still just animated clay and is a temporary residence for us to live. (2 Corinthians 5:1 - 2 Peter 1:14)
Understanding the desires and framing the situation properly makes the lust suddenly distasteful and foul in our own eyes being shallow and misguided.
When we see that these machines have specific funtions for specific reasons we can stop craving to use them for improper purposes.
The Nature Of Forbidden Novelty
In Genesis 3:21 God sacrificed animals for Adam and Eve to have clothes to cover their nakedness.
God did this to cover their bodies in a more permanent way than using fig leaves.
This passage is the first prediction that God would send His own Son to die and shed His own blood to “cover” our sins.
Our clothes then are a reminder that God is not angry at us and wants to forgive us and help us, because He knew everything we would do before we done it and He still died for us.
We must, if we intend to beat sin, stop hiding behind the tree as Adam did and go to God for help.
The covering of our bodies is a way to show that sexuality and our bodies are not meant to be the focus of our life.
We are to love each and every person on Earth as a brother or a sister.
This means we value who is inside the body to such a high degree that we don’t see them as a body, but as a living soul with thoughts, dreams, and feelings.
If we don’t love other people enough to see them as a real person deserving of respect, then our flesh will desire to use their bodies as a tool for its own gain.
When we are seeking to see those things which are meant to be covered, or to have them for ourselves, we are craving them simply because they are forbidden and hidden.
Our sin nature feels like it is gaining something of high importance and it gives a sensation of a thrilling ride, even though this sensation is a lie.
We tend to need to see “new” things as time goes on, because these things that pornography uses are basic boring common tools everyone has truly.
Putting Purity Into Perspective
In a marriage relationship things don’t get boring when the people are focused on who the other person is inside.
Rather they grow together as friends and they become more important and more interesting as time passes growing deeper in their relationship and not needing to resort to seeking the false thrill ride of obtaining forbidden things.
If we are not married and are single then we are still the bride of Christ. (Yes, this includes you men, 2 Corinthians 11:2)
We are meant to get to know God through the love letter He wrote us in the Bible and to spend our time enjoying the treasures He has shared with us in it.
While having a pornographic addiction or encounter of sin in any way can make us feel separated from God, He is no stranger to sinful people.
Lord Jesus said Himself that He is a friend of sinners and came to this Earth to help you because He loves you. (Matthew 11:19 - Mark 2:17)
Jesus Christ is not against us, but for us, and when every disciple deserted Him before His crucifixion He didn’t show up angry three days later when He resurrected.
So rather than struggle against old habits and sin nature by ourselves, we should run to God and know that He is not angry and really wants to help us out of our situation!
Philippians 4:13 says “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”
All things are possible to those who will believe in Him!
